Vet Tech 101 - Nutrition

Students will focus on the nutritional needs of our animals and optimal dietary choices for body weight, bone health, and organ health. They will also learn how to check to make sure the animals are receiving the right amount of nutrition by giving them examinations and will feed a variety of animals in our care. Space is limited.

I Want to Be a Vet

Do you love animals? Aspiring veterinarians will enjoy learning about the many aspects of veterinary care. Veterinarians provide different medical care for different types of animals depending on their patients-zoo animals, farm animals or pets! Children will learn about the special needs of a variety of APEC’s Animal Ambassadors and observe them up close. Space is limited.

Fall Harvest: Apples, Corn, and Pumpkins

Celebrate the fall harvest by sampling some healthy snacks and sharing treats with some furry animal guests. The participants will also paint will a popular fall fruit and enjoy a nature walk.
ONE adult per child and no siblings except babies under one year old in carriers. Space is limited. For Ages 4-5, with one adult | $26 per child/parent pair

Fused Glass Workshop

The holidays are approaching! Are you looking for an original gift for someone special? Join Naomi Rabinowitz, artist, and jewelry designer, for a fun morning making fused glass jewelry. Participants will have the opportunity to make colorful necklaces, pins, magnets, earrings, or rings -- and to learn the basics of fused glass art. Ms. Rabinowitz will fire your piece, and you will be able to pick up at APEC – date to be given at workshop. All materials will be provided. Spots are limited.

Animal Care Trainee

Would you like to help us care for APEC’s animals? This program introduces children to the unique responsibility of being an animal caretaker. Participants will learn about the needs of our animal ambassadors, and gain hands-on experience in feeding, brushing, and cleaning them. They will also learn the first steps of researching and understanding what animal is best fit for lifestyle and family. Space is limited.

A Tree For All Seasons

What are the four seasons? What does a tree do during different seasons? Let’s find out together! There will be a nature walk so we can observe the trees in the current season, and we’ll enjoy an all-season craft. Live animal presentations will clue us into why animals need these trees every season. Space is limited. ONE adult per child and no siblings except babies under one year old in carriers.

Everything Evergreens

Many animals make their home in evergreens. Children will enjoy a story about evergreen tree dwellers, create a painting using pine needles, and enjoy an outdoor nature walk looking for local evergreens. Live animal guests will also be observed in the class. ONE adult per child. Spots are limited.

Meditation & Reiki Workshop

Join Sonia of Sonia Energy Healer for a deeply restorative workshop designed to help you reconnect with peace and presence. The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes.
