Animal Care Trainee - December

Would you like to help us care for APEC’s animals? This program introduces children to the unique responsibility of being an animal caretaker. Participants will learn about the needs of our animal ambassadors, and gain hands-on experience in feeding, brushing, and cleaning them. They will also learn the first steps of researching and understanding what animal is best fit for lifestyle and family. Space is limited.

Intro to Vet Techs
Saturday, December 14th | 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
A brief introduction to veterinary science: animal terminology, behavior, and handling. Vet technicians, specifically, oversee many tasks around a vet clinic and work closely with their patients. Children will learn about the different types of patients that vets provide care for and will practice with some of the tools they use. Our Vet Tech students will learn the ins and outs of keeping some of the most common pet animals in peak medical condition. Space is limited.

Furry Friends

Furry friends are all around us! Learn about mammals and how their fur helps them survive. Share a popular children’s book and touch three different furry guests. One parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Space is limited.

Birds in Winter
Sunday, December 15th | 11:45 am - 1:00 pm
Ever wonder why some birds “fly the coop” in winter? Little ones will learn about migrating birds and birds that stay in Queens year-round. Meet two of APEC’s fine feathered friends and make a treat for birds in the park. Be sure to dress for a nature walk to hang treats and look for local birds. ONE adult per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Space is limited.

Meditation & Reiki Workshop
Saturday, January 11th | 9:30 am - 11:00 am
“Are you interested in meditation but don't know where to begin? Can’t quiet your mind? Want to reduce stress in your life? Join Sonia, a certified Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher at Alley Pond for an introduction to Meditation and Reiki workshop. Each participant will be given tools and strategies to implement in their own daily life. Reiki is an alternative method of relaxation and is offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner's hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head and shoulders. Come take the first step in your mediation journey at Alley Pond! All levels and backgrounds are welcome.”
