Intro to Vet Techs

A brief introduction to veterinary science: animal terminology, behavior, and handling. Vet technicians, specifically, oversee many tasks around a vet clinic and work closely with their patients. Children will learn about the different types of patients that vets provide care for and will practice with some of the tools they use. Our Vet Tech students will learn the ins and outs of keeping some of the most common pet animals in peak medical condition. Space is limited.

Vet Tech 101 - Anatomy
Tuesday, August 20th | 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Animal anatomy is the foundation of veterinary studies to understand more complex processes of the body. Students will learn about different skeletal structures and how to identify parts of animal bodies. They will also learn how to exam the animals for healthy bones and mobility. Space is limited. Vet Tech 101 - Intelligence
Wednesday, August 21st | 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Come join us for this Vet Tech class focusing on intelligence! Students will get to learn about different forms of intelligence, which animals are smarter than others, and the cognitive needs of our animal ambassadors. Students will also learn how to check to make sure the animals are receiving proper mental stimulation by giving them examinations and providing enrichment. Space is limited.

Vet Tech 101 - Microscope Study
Thursday, August 22nd | 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Are you interested in collecting your own animal samples to observe with a microscope? In a vet clinic, lab work can be part of general physical checkups and is essential in diagnosing issues that animals may have. Students will learn about the importance of microscopes and how to use them. They will also observe prepared slides and prepare simple slides of their own! Space is limited.

The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes.
