Our homeschool workshops are changing in 2023!
We are pausing our homeschool workshops for the Spring and Summer while we develop new and immersive lessons and prepare to move to our new sustainable building.
Our lessons, designed by APEC educators to supplement and enhance your homeschool environmental education curricula, will include age appropriate hands-on activities with a focus on outdoor learning. Our Fall 2023 workshop series will take place at our new location in Douglaston, NY. Classes are limited to 10 participants.
Dates: Mondays, October – December (dates to be announced)
Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm (90 minutes – longer sessions)
Fee: $220 per participant

OVERVIEW – FALL 2023 SESSION
Fall Exploration: K - 1st grade
Explore the wonders of nature and learn what plants and animals do during the fall season. Each class includes stories, outdoor exploration, games, and animal time. Be sure to dress for an outdoor nature walk for every class!
Features of Fall: 2nd – 4th grade
Celebrate the fall season with exciting lessons about animal and plant adaptations. Hands-on activities, guided nature walks, live animals, games, and literacy will inspire scientific discovery. Be sure to dress for an outdoor nature walk for every class!
Classification of Living Things: 5th – 6th grade
Explore and learn about taxonomy: the scientific system of classification. Compare attributes of different vertebrates and invertebrates using hands-on activities, live animal observations, nature hikes, and motivating lessons. Be sure to dress for an outdoor nature walk for every class!

Registration Policy:
Pre-registration is required for all programs.
When registering for a program, please note the required ages for children. If your child’s date of birth does not fall within the required age range, the registration system will not allow you to register for the program.
Cancellation Policy:
Homeschool workshop fees are non-refundable. If APEC cancels the workshop series, a refund will be issued. No refunds or credits will be given for any missed classes
The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes. Guests are welcome to attend one of APEC's many nature oriented programs for all ages and visit the center's animal ambassadors. Please explore our website to learn more and register for programs.
