Our homeschool workshops are changing in 2023!
We are pausing our homeschool workshops for the Spring and Summer while we develop new and immersive lessons and prepare to move to our new sustainable building.
Our lessons, designed by APEC educators to supplement and enhance your homeschool environmental education curricula, will include age appropriate hands-on activities with a focus on outdoor learning. Our Fall 2023 workshop series will take place at our new location in Douglaston, NY. Classes are limited to 12 participants.
Dates: Mondays, October – December (dates to be announced)
Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm (90 minutes – longer sessions)
Fee: $220 per participant
OVERVIEW – FALL 2023 SESSION
Lil Explorers: K - 1st grade
Explore the wonders of nature learning about plant and animal life cycles, habitats and more through stories, outdoor exploration, games, and animal time.
Young Naturalists: 2nd – 4th grade
Explore the animal world in depth through investigation of manipulatives, hands-on activities, and literacy. Sessions may feature hikes, games, experiments, and live animal encounters.
Green Guardians: 5th – 6th grade
Using nature as a teaching tool, students will delve into our local estuary ecosystem and assess the diversity of the wetlands through experiments, scientific methods, and field investigations.

Each week will feature an engaging lesson focused on one of the wonders found in our natural world, including rocks, sunsets, the Winter Solstice, constellations, fossils, and more! Led by a seasoned educator, the classes are paced to meet the learning needs of mixed grades. Class size is limited to 12 students to ensure a more intimate setting for informal learning experiences.

Registration Policy:
Pre-registration is required for all programs.
When registering for a program, please note the required ages for children. If your child’s date of birth does not fall within the required age range, the registration system will not allow you to register for the program.
Cancellation Policy:
Homeschool workshop fees are non-refundable. If APEC cancels the workshop series, a refund will be issued. No refunds or credits will be given for any missed classes
The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes. Guests are welcome to attend one of APEC's many nature oriented programs for all ages and visit the center's animal ambassadors. Please explore our website to learn more and register for programs.
