Vet Tech 101 - Nutrition
Saturday, February 1st | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Students will focus on the nutritional needs of our animals and optimal dietary choices for body weight, bone health, and organ health. They will also learn how to check to make sure the animals are receiving the right amount of nutrition by giving them examinations and will feed a variety of animals in our care. Space is limited.

I Want to Be a Vet!

Do you love animals? Aspiring veterinarians will enjoy learning about the many aspects of veterinary care. Veterinarians provide different medical care for different types of animals depending on their patients-zoo animals, farm animals or pets! Children will learn about the special needs of a variety of APEC’s Animal Ambassadors and observe them up-close. Space is limited.

Happy Valentine's Day to APEC's Animals

Celebrate your child’s love for animals at APEC! Toddlers will enjoy listening to an animal story and observing 3 animal guests close-up! We will also make a heart-shaped bird treat to take home and hang outside for birds in your neighborhood. ONE adult per child.

Penguins and Polar Bears
Sunday, February 16th | 11:30 am - 12:45 pm
Although penguins and polar bears are adapted for cold climates, they are very different! Learn about the different body covering, diet, and habitats of these cold-weather animals. Children will enjoy observing a dove and rabbit to make connections to polar animals. ONE adult per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

Ten Sparkly Snowflakes
Wednesday, February 19th | 9:15 am - 10:15 am
Toddlers will enjoy practicing counting from 1-10, matching snowflake pictures, and listening to a read-aloud of Ten Sparkly Snowflakes by Russell Julian. Two furry animal guests and a snowflake craft will also be part of this “cool” class. ONE parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

What Is A Mammal?

What is a mammal? What kind of adaptations can they have? Come and find out as we learn about different types of mammals. We will examine pelts, footprints, skeletons, and x-rays! We will also meet three real-life mammals and go on an outdoor nature walk. Spots are limited.

Animal Homes

Youngsters will learn about different animal homes and where local forest animals live. We will share a book about animal dwellings and examine bird nests. We will also observe and touch three different animal guests and look for animal homes in the park during a short nature walk. One parent per child. All About Birds

Description: There are over 11,000 living species of birds. Come and learn what characteristics they share and what sets them apart from other vertebrates. In this fun class, we will decorate binoculars and then get to go outside and use them to look for birds. Students will also get to meet a dove. Spots are limited.

Animal Care Trainee
Saturday, March 8th | 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Would you like to help us care for APEC’s animals? This program introduces children to the unique responsibility of being an animal caretaker. Participants will learn about the needs of our animal ambassadors, and gain hands-on experience in feeding, brushing, and cleaning them. They will also learn the first steps of researching and understanding what animal is best fit for lifestyle and family. Space is limited.

Green, Green, Green
Sunday, March 16th | 10:15 am - 11:15 am
Welcome spring with a fun class about nature’s favorite color. Enjoy a read aloud of Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger, play a game about camouflage, and make a collage with green materials. Children will also observe animal guests and feed the critters assorted greens. One parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

Animal Tales: Green Eggs and Ham

Forest Bathing Walk
Saturday, March 29th | 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Take a 90-minute meditative Forest Bathing walk, led by certified guide Linda Lombardo. Based on the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-Yoku, this unique walk inspires mindful connections with the natural elements of the woods for a range of healthful benefits. We will welcome the Spring and share the beauty of silence as you rediscover your wild heart in nature. According to Linda, “Take this time to be present, lower the stress you may be experiencing, and connect with nature, which naturally boosts your immune system.” Spots are limited.

Breathe & Stretch - Morning Yoga at APEC
Saturdays | 9:30 am - 10:30 am | 6 sessions (you do not need to register for multiple)
Come practice Yoga at APEC to start the day with breathwork and gentle movement. The emphasis of class will be on relaxing breathing techniques, an exploration of holding basic and non-traditional poses, and a focus on movements which both strengthen and lengthen. Each student is encouraged to express poses in their own interpretation, in a way that best supports their bodies' needs. The goal is to have the practitioners enjoy the day feeling uplifted, centered and, most importantly, content!
Open to all levels...beginners welcome! Feel free to register for one class to try it out! Space is limited. For Adults | $22 per adult, per session

Interesting Invertebrates

Did you know most animals are invertebrates? It is estimated 97% of known animal species are invertebrates. Come and learn about this incredibly diverse group of animals. Students will get to meet and interact with several different invertebrates. They will also go on a nature walk so make sure to dress to go outside. Space is limited.

Spring Plants & Insects
Monday, April 14th | 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Spring has sprung. It is finally time for all the trees and flowers to grow again. In this class, we will learn about some of the changes that come about when spring starts, especially with our plants and insects. Students will even get to plant a seed to take home! Be prepared to be outside and to get your hands dirty. Space is limited.

Wonderful Reptiles
Friday, April 18th | 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Snakes, turtles, lizards, alligators – what do all these animals have in common? They are all reptiles! Come and learn what traits reptiles share and what types of adaptations different reptiles have. Kids will get to meet three real-life reptiles. Students will also go on a nature walk so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Space is limited.
