Hide and Snake

Celebrate the Year of the Snake with a fun toddler class about snakes! Enjoy a book about a snake who likes to play hide and seek and make a cute craft to take home. Little ones will also love touching and observing different snakes from APEC’s Animal Collection. ONE parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

Animal Tales: The Greedy Python
Wednesday, January 29th | 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
Enjoy story time at APEC with a silly book illustrated by Eric Carle. Examine a snake skeleton, snake shed, and real snakeskin. Live animal guests will include two snake species-a ball python and corn snake. Children will also make a snake craft and take an outdoor nature walk. ONE adult per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

Ten Sparkly Snowflakes
Wednesday, February 19th | 9:15 am - 10:15 am
Toddlers will enjoy practicing counting from 1-10, matching snowflake pictures, and listening to a read-aloud of Ten Sparkly Snowflakes by Russell Julian. Two furry animal guests and a snowflake craft will also be part of this “cool” class. ONE parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

What Is A Mammal?
Wednesday, February 19th | 10:00 am - 11:30 am
What is a mammal? What kind of adaptations can they have? Come and find out as we learn about different types of mammals. We will examine pelts, footprints, skeletons, and x-rays! We will also meet three real-life mammals and go on an outdoor nature walk. Spots are limited.

Animal Homes
Wednesday, February 19th | 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
Youngsters will learn about different animal homes and where local forest animals live. We will share a book about animal dwellings and examine bird nests. We will also observe and touch three different animal guests and look for animal homes in the park during a short nature walk. One parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

All About Birds
Friday, February 21st | 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Description: There are over 11,000 living species of birds. Come and learn what characteristics they share and what sets them apart from other vertebrates. In this fun class, we will decorate binoculars and then get to go outside and use them to look for birds. Students will also get to meet a dove. Spots are limited.
For Ages 5-7 (drop-off) | $30 per child

The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes. Guests are welcome to attend one of APEC's many nature oriented programs for all ages and visit the center's animal ambassadors. Please explore our website to learn more and register for programs.
