Summer Science just got real. Led by a seasoned APEC educator, each week includes themed
lessons, hands-on fun-filled outdoor activities, trail walks, literacy, nature games, projects and live animals. Participants must bring a bagged snack and a labeled water bottle (reusable preferred). Participants should have sunscreen and bug repellant applied prior to entering the Center. Masks must be worn by all adults and children, 2 and up, for the entire program. Proof of vaccination is required for anyone 5 and up in order to enter our building. A matching ID will also be required for anyone 18 and up. Ages: Entering grades 1st-3rd (drop-off) $325* per week, per child |
Week 1: Insect Science July 11 - 15 Explore the fascinating world of insects and their impact on our everyday lives. Week 2: Nature Detective Science July 18 - 22 Learn to read nature signs as you look for clues along the trails. Week 3: Mason Jar Science July 25 - 29 Explore the world’s smallest science lab. Week 4: Wonder Women of Science Aug. 1 - 5 Learn about five inspiring female scientists and how they became the superstars they are. Week 5: Superhero Science Aug. 8 - 12 Looking at different superheroes we will see what we can learn from their amazing powers. Week 6: Wildlife Science Aug. 15 - 19 Learn about amazing animals of the world and their adaptations for survival. |
What time is it? SUMMERTIME! Let’s get down to business and celebrate the wonderful natural
world with a fun camp experience. Our daily sessions will include physical and mental games, stem challenges, experiments, and literature, not to mention time with APEC’s many animal ambassadors, and hikes through our parks surrounding trails! These classes will hopefully inspire your children to assume APEC’s mission to advocate for sustainable environmental policies and practices! Week 2: Wacky Wildlife and Animal Olympics July 18 - 22 Come to understand the adaptations/superpowers of wonderful and bizarre creatures that live on our planet. Week 3: Engineering and Thinking Green July 25 - 29 Focus on thought provoking STEM challenges that get them thinking like a real engineer. Week 4: Beautiful Birds Aug. 1 - 5 Discuss the dazzling adaptations birds employ to thrive in nearly every environment on Earth. Week 5: Our Living Planet Aug. 8 - 12 See just how active our world can truly be, in the skies, on the surface, and down in the deepest depths. Week 6: The History of Us Aug. 15 - 19 From the very first single-celled organism- to dinosaurs and ancient mammals, to us… let’s uncover the remarkable history of biodiversity on our planet and see how after every cataclysm, life finds a way! |
Young scientists entering Kindergarten in the fall will love exploring nature and science at APEC!
Each weekly program will focus on a different topic and have live animal guests. Activities will include children’s literature, hands-on activities, and development of math skills like sorting, comparing, and graphing. Children should dress for a daily nature walk and bring a labeled water bottle (reusable preferred). Participants should have sunscreen and bug repellant applied prior to entering the Center. Masks must be worn by all adults and children, 2 and up, for the entire program. Proof of vaccination is required for anyone 5 and up in order to enter our building. Week 1: Animal Senses July 11 - 15 Learn how animals use their senses to survive in the wild. Week 2: Animal Classification July 18 - 22 Explore and compare different vertebrate groups including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Week 3: Weights and Measures July 25 - 29 A variety of of STEM challenges will develop understanding about length, size, speed, and more. Week 4: Ornithology Aug. 1 - 5 Channel your inner bird watcher as we explore feathers, beaks, eggs, and nests while learning about different bird species. Week 5: Colors in Nature Aug. 8 - 12 Nature is filled with a rainbow of colors providing camouflage, serving as warning colors, and beautifying our world. Week 6: Animals and Habitats Around the World Aug. 15 - 19 Discover the amazing diversity of animals and compare the different homes in which they live. |
