National Take A Walk In The Park Day

Celebrate National Take a Walk in the Park Day!  Join an APEC Educator for a guided walk along the trails of Alley Pond Park.  A perfect relaxing way to give your heart and lungs a workout. All are welcome.

Unplugged Nature Club - All Outdoors

Wednesdays, April 5th, 19th, & 26th | 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm

Nature will be our classroom for this all outdoors program, featuring different topics each week. In a relaxed environment, children will learn in nature through exploration, literacy and games. Space is limited.

Animal Tales: My Spring Robin

Get ready for spring as we share My Spring Robin by Anne Rockwell.  Enjoy a springtime scavenger hunt while we explore the park on a nature walk.  Class will also include special animal guests including a rabbit, bird, and turtle.  One parent per child. No siblings except babies in carriers or car seats. Spots are limited.

Vet Tech 101 - Intelligence

Tuesday, April 11th  |  10:30 am - 12:30 pm

 Come join us for this Vet Tech class focusing on intelligence! Students will get to learn about different forms of intelligence, which animals are smarter than others, and the cognitive needs of our animal ambassadors. Students will also learn how to check to make sure the animals are receiving proper mental stimulation by giving them examinations. Our Vet Tech students will learn the ins and outs of keeping some of the most common pet animals in peak medical condition. Space is limited.

I Want to Be a Vet

Aspiring veterinarians will enjoy learning about the many aspects of veterinary care.  Veterinarians provide different medical care for different types of animals depending on their patients-zoo animals, farm animals or pets! Children will learn about the special needs of a variety of APEC’s Animal Ambassadors and observe them up-close.  Spots are limited.

Marvelous World Of Bugs!

Did you know there are over 350,000 kinds of beetle? Have you ever seen a walking stick munch on a leaf? Can you tell the difference between a male and female hissing roach? Join us for a one-of-a-kind interactive workshop and let out your inner entomologist as we dive into the marvelous world of bugs! Meet our insect animal ambassadors and learn about their fascinating lives, their adaptations, and how they affect us through experimentation and games. We hope to see you there, (with compound eyes of course)! Students will receive the book, Don’t Bug the Insects by Ben Richmond to enjoy at home. Spots are limited.

Colors of Spring

Nature comes alive and blooms with color in spring!  Explore the colors of spring with a shared reading of The Hidden Rainbow by Christie Matheson.  Examine the parts of a flower, meet live animals, and enjoy a color walk in the park. Amazing Animals

Learn some amazing facts about animals of the world by playing an “Animal Jeopardy Game.”  Meet 3 different animals from APEC’s Animal Room and enjoy a nature walk, looking for local critters. Each child will take home a copy of Amazing Animals: Super Sticker Activity Book. Spots are limited.

Fused Glass Workshop For Teens

Thursday, April 13th  |  1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Celebrate Spring at Naomi’s fused glass class! Make necklaces, earrings, rings and other jewelry using colorful glass and flower-themed accessories. Ms. Rabinowitz will fire your pieces and you will be able to pick it up at APEC – date to be given at workshop. All material will be provided. Spots are limited.

The environmental center is located in Alley Pond Park, surrounded by lush nature trails where visitors can enjoy NYC's natural landscapes. Guests are welcome to attend one of APEC's many nature oriented programs for all ages and visit the center's animal ambassadors. Please explore our website to learn more and register for programs.
